How to Maintain Dental Health when you’re Sick

Don’t procrastinate: We know you don’t feel well, but it’s not a good excuse to disregard brushing your teeth. You have to continue proper oral hygiene routine. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, and floss once daily.

Hydrate: Drinking lots of water is essential when you have colds. Usually, when you have stuffed nose, you breathe through your mouth, and this causes dryness. Breathing through the mouth dries your oral cavity, and this means bacteria will remain in your mouth. Therefore, drinking lots of water helps to rinse sugar and acid from your mouth and teeth. In addition, some medications have a dry mouth side effect, so it is vital that you hydrate with plenty of water.

Rinse: Some illnesses have vomiting symptoms. To prevent acid from coating in your mouth, make sure to rinse your mouth with water.

Change Toothbrush: Change your toothbrush after you get better because your old brush might still harbour some bacteria that can make you sick again.
